Fifteen thousand runners are on the race to serve.
The Civil Service Commission (CSC) will once again hold the R.A.C.E. to Serve Fun Run to open the month-long celebration of the 113th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary this September. The fun run will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Quirino Grandstand, Luneta, Manila. The event is now on its third year.
Vice President Jejomar C. Binay will once again lead civil servants in this year’s run, while Department of Health Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Eric Tayag, also known as the “Dancing ASec,” will lead the warm up exercises.
Also in attendance will be CSC Chairman Francisco T. Duque III, Government Service Insurance Service System (GSIS) General Manager Roberto Vergara, Public Attorney’s Office Chief Persida Rueda-Acosta, Manila City Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada, Manila City Vice Mayor Isko Moreno, and Pasay City Vice Mayor Marlon Pesebre.
“This year’s celebration with the theme, Tatak Lingkod Bayani: Isabuhay, Ipagmalaki at Ipagbunyi, aims to promote, showcase, and celebrate heroism in public service, and to highlight stories of triumph and sacrifice among the men and women in government. The activities lined-up will hopefully engage government officials and employees from all over the Philippines to participate in the spirit of fun, good health, good governance, and social consciousness,” said Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairman Francisco T. Duque III.
The race features three categories: 3K, 5K, and 10K distances, which are open for both men and women who are Filipino citizens and 18 years old and above.
First, second, and third placers for the 3K run will receive P5,000, P4,000, and P3,000, respectively, while placers in the 5k run will win P10,000, P8,000, and P7,000 respectively. For placers in the 10K race, the CSC will award cash prizes of P15, 000, P12, 000, and P11, 000.
CSC, in partnership with the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), organized the event, proceeds of which will go to the Pondong Pamanang Lingkod Bayan, a fund that grants financial aid to immediate family members of state workers who died in line of duty.
The event is supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine National Police, Pasay City Government, Manila City Government, National Parks Development Committee, and Metro Manila Development Authority.
CSC Regional Offices will likewise hold simultaneous Fun Runs in the regions.
